It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are. – Paul Caponigro

Marisol's Portraits

Van Ness Ave, Fresno, California

The quote above is something that I truly believe and stand by. Anyone and everyone has a camera these days. Whether you have a professional camera, a point and shoot camera, or just the camera on your phone. People are getting more and more savy with pictures especially with all the fun filters that are out there for all your Iphone shots. It is easy to snap a picture of someone, but did you actually get a picture of who the person is? Where you able to get an image of their personality, their love, what they are feeling, and who they are?

A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it.— Edward Steichen

Very few understand what it takes to make a portrait of who the person actually is in that photograph. You want to capture their true self. Did you capture their love, their beliefs, their personality, their true person? Were you able to get an image that someone can say ‘Wow, I feel like I know you’? This is my goal in my portraits. I want to capture your true self. I want to make sure that the pictures show you, that the pictures show your love for life, shows your feeling, and your emotions. My goal is to bring out who you are during your session and what you are all about. Very few can bring out a persons true self without practice.

I was lucky enough to be able to be Marisol’s portrait photographer this last Saturday. This girl is truly beautiful inside and out! It was such a fun session. We woke up at the crack of dawn in order to beat the heat (yes, it was supposed to be 110 degrees on Saturday, good ole Central Valley Californiaweather). The session was scheduled for 6:30 in the morning. The plan was to get gorgeous morning light and have her session while her kiddo's were still asleep. If I do say so myself, I think we succeeded as these portraits are gorgeous. The light was just beautiful and so is Marisol.

p.s to you photogs out there : Typically during a session I will change lenses quite often; however, when it comes to professional head shots I stick to my Sigma 50mm Art. It creates the most beautiful bokeh, as you can see!
